My Profile
Stephen Fowler LSSM Dip. MSMA, MISRM
I specialise in sports and remedial massage therapy, together with performance and corrective exercise programming, I have over 20 years experience in the fitness/therapy industry. During that time I have successfully run Total Contrast Health and Fitness. A company I started in 1990 offering personal training and corrective exercise programming.
After completing many qualifications in personal training, I then qualified at the London School of Sports Massage, where I am registered. I am also registered with the Sports Massage Association, and the Institute of Sport and Remedial Massage, my details can be found on all three websites (see links on right). I am currently studying with the Paul Chek Institute for functional and correctional exercise. I have developed an almost unique range of skills and techniques coupled with my own experience of over twenty years in fitness.
To date I have worked with various sports teams; including rugby, football, and hockey. I have also been providing Sports and Remedial massage to a local martial arts club in addition to various county level squash and tennis players. I have also helped with two Olympic standard swimmers, and one national champion in canoeing.
My clients include both amateur and novice "weekend warriors" and a large number of everyday people with mixed requirements. These range from work related and over-use injuries due to incorrect sitting posture or repetitive movements at work, to post surgical rehabilitation.
I personally suffered a broken back some 18 years ago, resulting in two ruptured discs leading to prolonged sciatica, which I successfully treated with exercise, traction and stretching. More recently a car accident left me with an unstable shoulder and dislocated knee, which I also rehabilitated using Biofeedback, massage and exercise. I feel that these unfortunate accidents gave me an insight into the pain and frustration that most practitioners do not experience first hand, and so I feel I am able to sympathize and identify with my clients.
I have developed an almost unique range of skills and techniques, combining various massage techniques with correctional exercise therapy and the latest in computerised biofeedback. My own experience of over twenty years in fitness enabled me to treat most common soft tissue injuries.
